The official opening of the Malaysian Embassy in Addis Ababa was a significant signal. It was powerfully followed by the landmark visit of Malaysian Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim to Ethiopia, which included the first high-level Ethio-Malaysia Business Forum. There, a shared strategic vision was formally declared: “We see Ethiopia as a strategic gateway for Malaysian products to the African continent, while Malaysia is a gateway for Ethiopian products to the ASEAN market.”

Seizing the historic convergence of strengthened Malaysia-Ethiopia relations and high-level strategic endorsement, Ethio Malaya Trading PLC was formally established on December 8, 2025, as a joint venture to architect the envisioned gateway between the two regions.

In that moment, a personal dream transformed into a national strategic imperative. The gateway we envisioned was being officially endorsed at the highest levels.
